Pacific Islands Should Work Together: Toganivalu

Pacific Island countries must adapt regionally together as one and set out a robust process through which regional priorities will be identified and implemented.

This was highlighted by Fiji Development Bank chief executive Deve Toganivalu during the 30th Association of the Development Financing Institutions in the Pacific (ADFIP) annual meeting yesterday.

The meeting was held at the Radisson Blu Resort on Denarau Island in Nadi.

“We as members of ADFIP face significant challenges and uncertainties that arise as our region changes with modernity, globalization and the damaging effects of climate change,” he said.

“We must stand united to share and combine our resources to overcome geographical and demographic disadvantages.”

He added the meeting had been deferred twice during the past twelve months.

“We are finally here collectively as association members to continue the discussion on major issues affecting Pacific Island nations and the solutions to problems we face in our own countries,” he said.

The annual meeting is from the 21st to the 24th of this month.
